October: Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October has been established as Breast Cancer Awareness Month to educate people about the importance of prevention and early diagnosis of the disease. In 2020, an estimate of 2.3 million women worldwide were diagnosed with breast cancer and 685,000 deaths from breast cancer were reported. Breast cancer survival rates began to improve significantly in the 1980s in countries where early detection programs were introduced, in line with the advancement of treatments for the disease. Early diagnosis of the disease has been shown to lead to up to 95-97% survival rates.
NIPD Genetics has created the Female Cancer Package, which includes various biomarkers which can potentially lead to early detection of breast, ovarian, and cervical cancers, among others.
For the month of October, with the purchase of every Female Cancer Package, NIPD Genetics will be donating €5 to Europa Donna Cyprus, which aims to provide services and support to patients with breast and ovarian cancers.
